What a way to start the new year!

Today was one of THOSE days. I had so much planned and was so excited to get a ton of stuff done- finally! I guess I was a little too excited, because in my haste, I tripped on the last step. Not a huge deal (besides the blow to my pride), except that I was holding my two-year old daughter in one arm and carrying groceries and a brand new can of paint in the other. As I fell, I quickly weighed out my options in my head...option A: fall onto my tiny daughter, or option B: drop the bags (paint) and catch us both. Option B quickly won out and everything seemed to be okay, until I picked up the bag the can on paint was in and quickly realized it was dripping everywhere. When I'd dropped my bag, the paint had hit the corner of the stair at just the right angle to pop the lid off so black paint was pouring everywhere. To make matters worse, it was -13 degrees outside, which caused the paint to freeze almost instantly. So not cool. Ben (because he's super sweet and nice, took pity on me and cleaned it all up- which took him over and hour and multiple trips up and down three fligts of stairs with pitchers of boiling water(cause he had to melt the frozen paint first and then clean it up). I know, what a great guy, huh? Yeah, I totally owe him. So between that and multiple trips to the home improvement store trying to get the right color of paint for Broox's nursery (yeah, he's still in our room cause we have had zero time to finish his), and taking care of two kids, plus trying to get the house put back together after the holidays... let's just say, my list didn't get done. I guess thats okay...the important things were taken care of: the kids were loved on, played with, fed, bathed. And I got a sweet and humbling reminder that my husband loves me so much that he's willing to go clean up my messes in -13 degree weather and not once complain or make me feel guilty about it because, "accidents happen". Even though my list didn't get checked off, now that I think about it, it wasn't a bad day at all. Besides, it's only 8:30, the night's still young, right?

It is finally looking like Christmas around here!

Nice and snowy outside (personally, I prefer the snow to stay in the mountains, where I don't have to drive in it, but it does make it look much more festive and it helps it feel like Christmas!), warm and cozy inside!

We usually break out the Christmas decor on Black Friday (after shopping all morning!), but this year we didn't get around to it until tonight. (and apparently in the blog world, you are supposed to decorate like a month early...whoops! Newbie here :)

Since it was pretty late when we finished, there was no chance of getting pics in nice, natural light, so I just snapped a couple real quick to give you a little sneak peek.

That little lamp project took waaaaay longer than it should have and cost me a couple burnt fingers. Luckily, I finally outsmarted it and love how it turned out! We don't have a mantle, so I decorate the top of our entertainment center. This little lamp really warms it up and brighten up the room.

I absolutely LOVE nativity scenes. I think it's because my mom has always loved them and collected them, so growing up, they were always a staple in decorating our house for the holidays.

Sadly, this is the only one I own (I totally wish I had this WillowTree set...one day, right? :), so I display it proudly on our dining room table. It's just a little one piece nativity, but I love it's simplicity.

I'll take pictures of everything else we put out tomorrow when my light is back. This is the most I've ever done for Christmas, and I'm loving it! I've always wanted to decorate more, but it's taken us some time to build up the Christmas decorating stash! Stay tuned for more pics!

{ entertaining: the little touches }

I am a firm believer that special events or occassions are really made special because of the extra effort you put into it. Maybe it makes me a little more stressed out or anxious beforehand, but I don't mind. I really think it's worth it. To me, it shows that the person we are celebrating is important and our guests are important.

When we blessed my daughter a couple years ago, I made a fruit bouquet for the luncheon afterwards. I had never done something like this before, but thanks to the infinite wisdom of those on the internet, I was able to do it...

So, when we blessed our son a couple weeks ago, I knew I had to make him one too. Only, since it's November, it was hard to find good fruit in season. Luckily, after going to 4 different stores, I finally found strawberries (seriously...it was ridiculous!)

With Taelie's, it was REALLY top heavy -- I was so nervous the whole time that if anyone bumped the table, the whole thing would tip over, so instead of doing a tall crystal vase, I went with a crystal bowl this time.

I underestimated how much fruit I would need to make it as full as I wanted, but it still works.

And, wouldn't you know it -- the crystal bowl was the one that ended up breaking. :( Not at the luncheon, luckily, but I was pretty sad when it happened. Gotta love irony, huh?

I actually quite enjoy making these fruit bouquets. I like spending the time to put them together and give myself a little bit of time to just focus on the arrangement and the person that I'm creating it for. I turn up the music and just zone out in my own little creative world.

We have shelves in our master closet!

This was one of those projects.

You know what I mean -- the kind you always plan on doing, but it takes a gigantic kick in the rear to actually get moving -- right? (or maybe I'm the only one that procrastinates like that...)

Before we bought our condo, um, THREE years ago, we knew we wanted to add more storage. But, in between babies, and moving every year, it just wasn't a priority. Well, when we had our second little bundle of joy this summer, adding storage got shoved right up to the top of the list. We have a three bedroom home, and I wanted our kids to have their own rooms right now so they don't wake each other up and maybe because I wanted to decorate them for each kid. Maybe.

Anyway, Broox's room has been a junk room of sorts...okay, that's a total lie. It's been an absolute DISASTER. We always kept that door closed because it was overflowing with crap. We'd clean it out about, oh, once a year, and it would stay that way for maybe a week. Then it got buried again. Awesome.

So, we knew it. Was. Time.

With my hubs being home so much now, we decided to tackle it. (and by "we", I mean, I told him what I wanted, and he built it for me :)

Here was our closet before:

One shelf all the way around the top of the closet.

I had one of those canvas shoe hangers from Wal-mart, but even still...

the floor usually looked like this.

I didn't get a shot of hubby's side, but it was pretty similar. Clearly, shoe cubbies were a must. As were additional shelves.

This was before we painted. We were so exited to get organized and not have our clothes strewn all over our room that we put half of our stuff back up and painted the closet it halves. Note to self: next time, be a little more patient and paint beforehand. Man, those cubbies were a ridiculous pain!

Broox's closet was STUFFED wtih boxes. We still have to go through them (again), but for now, we decided to just move them into our room so we can get his room set up as quickly as possible. This is only a fraction of the stuff we moved out of here...how embarassing. :)

Shoe cubbies! Love, love, LOVE them! I actually put my shoes away now! Something my hubs is particuarly excited about...haha!

Plus two extra shelves! Perfect for storing Christmas presents, Christmas trees...etc. :)

My Mister's side -- he organizes his clothes by color/style because I get all stressed out if it's not that way -- It doesn't bother him one bit if they are all mixed together. I get hives just thinking about it. Sweet guy to do that for me. :)

I think I may be ~~completely~~ a teensy bit obsessed with organization...

{sigh} Love it!

It feels soooo good to have this project done! Plus, it means we are one step closer to getting to Broox's room -- which is SUPER exciting to me. I just love being able to check projects like this off our list -- especially because then we can move on to the more fun ones. It is amazing how much more storage we have now, and it doesn't make our closet feel any smaller at all -- just utilizing the space better. And, we have been hanging shelves in other rooms of our house like crazy, so we will have plenty of room to grow for the next little while. I love it!

{ my first ever sewing project }

I guess to be perfectly honest, I DID complete my 8th grade sewing class...because it was required. But even that was pretty sad.

I was one of those girls that thought sewing was SO NOT COOL. And I wanted nothing more than to NOT be domestic. So, with my awesome 14-year old short term thinking, I absolutely avoided ANYTHING that could be even remotely related to domesticity.

I never learned to cook.

Or clean (until I lived on my own. Then helloooo neat freak!).

Or sew.

Or budget.

I think you get the picture.

When we found out we were expecting our daughter (and had gotten past the "danger zone" of miscarrying), I started looking around at bedding. NOTHING was jumping out at me. And the stuff I did like was SOOOO expensive. So my sweet hubsters, Ben, suggested I make it myself.

Um....what the wha??? Do you not know me at all?

We'd been together for 8 years and yet you haven't realized I can't sew a straight line?

But he had confidence in me. So I thought I'd give it a try.

Not by myself. Not that brave. But my sister-in-law's mother is uh-maze-ing! So, I got her ~~to figure it all out~~ help teach me the basics. And lo and behold, I COULD do it!

Who woulda thought?! (certainly NOT me)

Well, now that my baby girl is almost 2 (seriously? It's crazy!), it's about time to get rid of the crib, so I thought I'd post some pictures of my first ever sewing project (that I was secretly SO proud of myself for creating) before we get it all changed out.

Her adorable little crib:

The bumpers. Um, can you believe I didn't know that people MADE piping? Yeah, I might have been pretty excited about that... :)

Inside of the bumpers. I did not make the sheet though - that's all Target, baby!

Crib skirt. Obviously it doesn't really poke out the slats like that. Just pulled it out to show you the detail. I'm nice like that. :)

The window valence. This is one thing I will definitely do differently in the future. My Taelie-girl needs it dark to sleep, so her window had been covered up with a blanket for the last two years. A blanket that I take down in the morning. And put back up for nap time. And take down after nap time. And put back up for bedtime. It's ridiculous. But otherwise it's either too dark or too bright. New curtains will be a MUST for her new room.

Her rag quilt. Probably my favorite item in her room. After she got bigger, I moved it from her crib to the armchair in her room.

Terrible picture, but this is where we hung all her bows. I added horizontal strips of ribbon across it and attached her clips. It is defnitely too busy, and I will be making something new for her hair stuff for her new room. I'm just not loving it, but it worked for awhile.

We painted the entire room and installed the faux board and batten. We had no idea what it was called when we did it, we just liked how it looked. Yeah, we're decor-savvy like that. It's pretty tall too, as you can see from the pic -- sits above the light switch. I wanted it to peek out above her crib, and I love it. :) We still have that glider, but are planning on selling it, it never worked with her room, and we never used it, so I never finished it. Her dresser is in it's place now.

I wanted to do the traditional name sign, but change it up a little bit, so I made hers out of the same fabric using a tutorial. I love the font -- sooo adorable!

Close up of the letters and the adorable knobs I got to hang them from. They were originally pink, but didn't stand out enough on her wall, so they got a quick coat of spray paint!

And finally...the view from her doorway. I know it's hard to see, but the chime hanging in the corner I brought all the way over from Ukraine, and saved it for years before it found it's home in her nursery. I want to add sparkle too it or even make it brighter pink, but I am worried about messing it up since I can't exactly run out and buy a new one if I do. Any pointers?

Whew! I'm pretty sure this was the longest post in the history of the world! ha! It's crazy to look at these pictures and see how much has changed and evolved since we first put this sweet little nursery together. I will take pictures of the changes so I can document it and remember it after it "grows up".

This is still my favorite room in our home. I wanted to be a mom for so long that the first time I was able to cuddle my baby in her own room was a monumental occassion for me. Everytime I walk into her room, I'm reminded how lucky I am to be a mother. Her room totally symbolizes that to me. :)

I am SO glad I got passed my "fear" of domesticity! Now I love all things having to do with it and only wish I would have learned earlier because now I am desperately trying to make up for lost time! I should have listened to my mom when she told me one day I'd want to know how to do these things. Moms seriously know everything. :) (Hopefully my kids feel the same way one day.)

I don't care about resale value.

At least right now, anyway. We don't have any intentions to move anytime soon, so why should I worry about what future owners will think of my home? Since we are the ones living here for the next foreseeable future, we paint and decorate for US. We don't worry about what others will think of it. If/when the time comes that we decide to sell, if we need to, we can always slap some paint around.

But for now, our home is for us. :)

I had always wanted a bright, fun bathroom. I feel like bathrooms are one of the rooms in the house where you can really go crazy with color and fun. It took some convincing (2 years!) to get my husband to agree, but, I was finally successful, and even better, he is happy with the results too!

I had known what I wanted to do in here for a long time. A long looooong time. Once the hubsters was on board (okay, okay, even before he was completely on board...), I got all gung-ho over this project.
I may or may not have started experimenting with paint colors all over the wall while he was at school one day. Obviously when he came home and saw the wall all splotched up like that, we couldn't just leave it. People see this room, for crying out loud! So, clearly, we had to paint it. That night. :) (Ah, I just love that man! He puts up with so much! :)

Just a few hours later, we had taken the blindingly-white, boring-beyond-belief bathroom to this little beauty:

Ack! Could you just die? I LOVE it!

Since I just kinda sprung this project on my husbad, we were trying to keep it at low-cost as possible. So we took the towel rod, hand-towel holder, and toilet paper roll holder, light fixture, and some accessories all down and spray-painted them a nice sleek black. Then, using extra paneling from when we did faux board and batten in Taelie-girl's room, we fashioned a quick frame around the mirror and glued it right back onto the mirror.

Hung the same decorations back up. But with the new wall color, it makes a WORLD of difference! Look how that shower curtain pops now! It's hard to tell from my spectacular phone pics, but the green stripes match the rest of the green in the bathroom perfectly! And, when I couldn't figure out the best way to fix that ~~annoying~~ fun little gap above the shower curtain, I had a sweet suggestion from a fellow blogger to add some trim to the bottom of the curtain and raise the whole thing up. Genius! Of course, I have yet to do it, but I can definitely visualize how awesome that will look when I get to it.

Also, I am 99% sure I am going to paint the ceiling too. My hubs wasn't convinced that we should, so we agreed to live with it for a little while and see how we felt about it. Everytime I pass it though, I can't help but think how much better it will look without that obvious contrasting line between the wall and ceiling, so I'm itching to get 'er done! (I am ~~totally~~ a tiny bit nervous about it, although I've seen many others that have done it and it's looked awesome, so I'm trying to be brave. :)

With so many decor blogs out there, and so many talented and amazing people running them, ~~it's totally~~ sometimes it can get a little overwhelming trying to do so many projects and get your home into a "perfect" state. It's easy to feel like everyone is so much more talented or has so much more time or money or whatever it is to deck out their home the way you want to. I'm sure many of us feel like our home is never up to par. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I fee; like November was a fitting month to express appreciation for what we DO have. No matter how big or little our space, or how much (or lack of) money we may have, we can ALL find things we LOVE about our home.

I feel so lucky to have a place I can call HOME:

Welcome to the A's home!

Here at Number 10, we laugh, cry, love, argue, tickle our kids, play fetch with our dog, watch movies, host dinner parties, clean, decorate, refinish furniture, paint, work, study, relax, and most of all, just enjoy being with each other.

Number 10 is many things to me:

* where we brought our children to from the hospital after birth

* where we brought our dog to when we were told we wouldn't be able to have children (take THAT doctors!:) )

* the first space we bought together

* where we curl up on the couch to cuddle for a good chick flick (pretty much the only movies I watch -- my hubs puts up with a LOT!)

* where our daughter learned to crawl and later, took her first steps

* where we get to come back to after a long summer away for my husband's work

* where we spray paint and refinish furniture on our 12x5 foot deck

* a place that (hopefully) says, "classy, with kids welcome here!" :)

* a place just for us

And above all, Number 10 is the place we call HOME.

It doesn't matter if you own, rent, whatever, if you have a place that you feel comfortable in, that you can breathe a sigh of relief when you walk through the door, then you have a place to call home! That one little fact alone makes us very, very lucky.

Um, I love wreaths.

Like, totally, completely, 100% love them.

and when I found this wreath over at Dream Home, I almost freaked out.

Okay, okay, I totally freaked out. But how could I not? I mean, look at this beauty!

It is simply GORGEOUS!

I LOVE the simplicity of it. Oh, and those adorable rosettes. To. Die. For.

When I get back to Utah, I'll be replacing my store-bought wreath (which I do still love):

with a knock-off of Kasia's adorable wreath!

Any other wreaths I should be checking out and swooning over? Point me in their direction, and I'll gladly come drool over 'em!

{ i had a baby }

Which is why I've been MIA for so long.

That plus moving from Maryland back to Utah to have the baby, then back to Maryland, and now to Pennsylvania for my husband's work equals VERY little time for crafting projects.

Also, it has taken me awhile to get the hang of two kids. Cause, you know, they outnumber me now.
I feel like I am finally getting there though. Course, since I'm in Pennsylvania for the next couple weeks, so my projects will be severely limited. But I'll be here, lurking around. (um...not in the creepy way that that sounds though :))

And while I wait to get started again, I'll be enjoying giving mucho smooches to these two lovebugs.

{ window treatments: the before }

I love my mom.

Seriously.

She doesn't "get" my passion for decorating, but she totally "gets" me and since I love it, is totally supportive of me.

We were talking about all the changes I am in the process of making to our condo (does the list ever end? Um...no :) and she mentioned that she has been wanting new curtains in her living room and kitchen for the longest time but just hasn't found the time to make them...

Enter me.

When she asked me if I could help her with some new window treatments, I think I about squealed out loud, I was so excited. Here is what we are starting with...

I am so excited to get to work on these and have been scouring the internet looking for some sample pictures to show my mom. I want the room to reflect their style and be comfortable. Also, my parents have 13 (almost 14!) grandchildren, so it has to be very kid-friendly.

Any ideas for window treatment styles I should look up would be greatly appreciated!

I have a problem.

I love fabric stores waaay too much!

Seriously, as soon as I walked into the shop, I wanted to not only get fabric for baby boy's room, but re-do my daughter's nursery and every other room in the house. Those places are dangerous. Seriously.

Luckily (for my husband), I restrained myself and ONLY purchased fabric for the nursery right now.

Do you have any idea how hard it was to find "boyish" fabrics that were still cute? I am picky too...I wanted cute, but not "cutesy". I'm weird like that. After weeks of searching, I found some fabrics I loooove:

Oh! Could you just die! I am LOVING them! They are bright and fun and just what I wanted in baby boy's room!

I wasn't originally planning on using a brown, but it seemed to work well, so I went with it. And I love it with the other colors. Seems to tie thm all together, don't you think?

I love the stripes on this one...I think it just screams boy but in a cute way. Maybe that doesn't make sense, but in my head it totally does :)

And my all-time favorite! I adore the pattern on this fabric. So fun! I knew I wanted squares, but I love how these are not all perfectly lined up. Perect, perfect, perfect!

All this time, I've been planning on painting his room green, but now I'm wondering if that would be too much...any thoughts or opinions? I know I could always go the traditional blue for his room, but I'd like to do something a little different if I can make it work.

I feel like I can breathe so much easier now that I have the fabrics picked out and in my possession! Anyone else feel that way when they finally get what they've been searching for? I feel like the hard part is over, now I can just put it all together the way I see it in my mind.

Any thought on wall color? Also, I'm planning on getting dark bamboo shades or his room. My babies tend to wake up to light (Um, I guess it's just baby, since I only have one child right now!), and I like to sleep in, so anything that helps with that, I am all for! Any suggestions on where to get those? The window in his room is 59"x47"...do they sell them that large? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

{ project: nursery }

Wow.

Obviously I am VERY new at this whole decor blogging thing, because I completely spaced posting for the last week or so. If I were more "with it", I would have planned some posts ahead of time. Ah well, live and learn right?

Sorry for the brief hiatus -- I am back and ready to go!

So, as some of you may know, I am a little bit pregnant.

Oh, who am I kidding -- I'm about to explode.

I am 35 1/2 weeks pregnant and baby boy (no name yet) is due to make his appearance on August 3rd.

This was me at 29 weeks:

I have not taken a more recent pic -- if I do, I'll post it for y'all to see.

While we could not be more thrilled, I am suddenly thrown into nesting overdrive.

See, with my Taelie girl, I made her nursery bedding, and I've been planning on making this little one's too, but between moving for the summer and having to haul stuff back and forth, I decided to just wait until I got home to worry about it. (and I could not for the life of me, find any fabric that I just LOVED in Baltimore. Soooo frustrating!)

Well, I'm home now...and I only have 3 1/2 weeks to whip together some of this cuteness:

Boy, those bumpers took a lot of work -- they aren't hard at all - just time consuming.

And, knowing me, I had to make the crib skirt difficult and use multiple fabrics instead of just one. I have issues, people...issues!

This blanket took by far the most work though...luckily I love it, but man!

I love making baby bedding, so I am actually really excited to get started on baby boy's nursery. I have it all planned out in my head how I want it to look.

As soon as Taelie girl wakes up, we are off to the fabric store. I am praying this little boy waits until his induction date to get here...if so, then I have T-26 days until delivery. That is plenty of time to make everything, right? (just nod along with me...it will make me feel better!)

Now, if I can just find fabric I love...we'll be set!

{3} My husband is a door-to-door salesman -- this is why we move every summer. We LOVE his job, but it makes it harder to get all our projects done being gone during the best part of the year.

{4} I still LOVE the show FRIENDS. My husband and I usually watch an episode every night before we go to bed.

{5} I think I was born to travel -- I have lived in 3 different countries and 5 different states. All but one of those moves have been since I graduated high school.

{6} I am terrible with directions. If I don't have my trusty GPS, I will get lost. Guaranteed.

{7} I am a total perfectionist, and I'm pretty sure I have OCD. I like things clean, organized, and looking good.

And believe me, I totally read wa-ay more blogs than that and could have listed off a bunch, but I decided to just do 5, so that hopefully others will go to their sites and check them out without being overwhelmed by a huge list. While I do believe that in many cases, less is more, THIS is not one of the times that holds true:

A dining room should not have a ridiculously bare wall like this, am I right?

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

I kept changing my mind about what to do with this space. At first I wanted a big family picture, then I decided I wanted the first initial of our last name, "A" up in vinyl in a scrolly print with a sweet saying behind it. (I still want this somewhere...maybe the master bedroom?) Then I wanted a long line of random, fun, informal family pictures up on the wall.

Decisions, decisions! The answer finally came to me when I found three beautiful floating shelves at our local thrift store for, get this, $1.50 TOTAL. For all three of them! I'm pretty sure I let out an audible squeal of delight right there in the aisle. This is where my thrift store obsession began.

They needed a little bit of TLC, but for a buck fifty, I was NOT complaining! I took them home and gave them a good scrubbing and a coat of black spray paint. The shortest shelf needed a little repair work, and my husband fixed that right up.

Once we got them hung up, I knew I wanted some vinyl saying up there to tie it all together, and I played around with a bunch of different ideas and went to a million different vinyl websites. Then I remembered that my husband had been given some vinyl lettering samples from one of his clients. I thumbed through a couple of them until I found one I liked:

It wasn't along the same lines of what I'd been thinking, but when I read it, I loved the saying and knew it would work great for this space.

Now that I had the layout all put together, I was finally ready to start decorating those shelves! I was so excited! But I could not for the life of me find arrangements of things I liked. I was SURE I had enough stuff lying around the house that I could figure something out, but I kept coming up with nada. So, our beautiful dining room looked like this about a month:

What? It's NOT a gorgeous dining room? I know! I was so sad. Then one day it just hit me. I had found a couple other awesome thrift store finds and once I had those ready to go, the rest just came to me.

Here is the finished (for now!) product:

That's our little dog, Chloe. She is totally a member of the family. Maybe it's weird to have a picture of our pet up, but we just love her like crazy, so it seems normal to us!

The other photo is of our daughter and niece. They are only one week apart. It's been so fun watching them grow up together! Both frames were thrift store finds that were .75 cents each! Can't beat that!

The reed diffuser I already had -- the oil was long gone, but I'd held onto the piece because it was so cute. I am so glad I did!

The flower was one I got at Robert's Crafts forever ago, I'd been planning on making it into a clip for my daughter, but never got around to it. It found a new home instead! The circular vase was a buck from the thrift store and the little glass container (I have no idea what that is called!) was another long used up reed diffuser that I just took the label off of.

I love the sweetness of a single flower...so cute!

The vase was the most expensive thing up there at $15.00. My husband and I went on a date where you paint your own pottery and this was his creation. He was very proud of it (as he should be -- it turned out great!) The fancy silverware was $2.00 for all of it at the thrift store. I could not believe it! I think I literally skipped out of the store. It is gorgeous. Not sure I'm loving how it's arranged, but it works for now!

One more to see it all put together!

Obviously, there are still some bare areas and I'm trying to decide if I should add to it or leave it as is in a "less is more" fashion. Any suggestions? Until we decide to change it up, I am feeling much better about this than the nothingness that was there before!

p.s. Please ignore that all the pictures say "the inspiration studio". That was my old blog that is no long in existence. Apparently when I edited the pics, I didn't save the originals onto our external hard drive, and our old computer crashed, taking them with it, so the old edited pics are all I have. Awesome. Sorry for any confusion.

We have quite a bit of American pride 'round our house.

My hubbs was thisclose to signing up for the Marines. He tore his hamstring practically in half the day before he was going in to sign up, and by the time it healed, he had other responsibilities to attend to. His favorite song is "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood, and he tears up at the sight of soldiers or memorabilia about our great country.

Even with all of this, we haven't been able to celebrate the 4th of July properly - because pretty much since we've been married, my husband's job takes us out of state all summer long. We leave our home and family and travel to somewhere else in the country. Don't get me wrong, we LOVE these adventures, but I wish I could decorate our house during this time to show our American pride.

We do have a little something up...it stays up all year to remind us how lucky we are to live here:

Now, I know that I don't have to decorate to show pride, but, let's be honest, it's a fun way to do so!

Especially after seeing some of the awesome ideas around blogland.

Take this for example:

How stinking adorable is that? Those girls over at How Does She? never fail to amaze me. I might stalk their site for new ideas....maybe....I'll never tell!

As soon as I saw that, I about died. "I MUST have that!" I thought to myself. And I will be making one as soon as I get back home. I'll show you the finished product soon, I promise!

And then I saw Thrifty Decor Chick's post about this same decoration PLUS her own twist on it to make it into a door hanging:

Ack! Could you just die? I just love it. So simple. So sweet.

Sarah never ceases to amaze me with what she comes up with.

So then I decided I had to make one of those too. Darn it all. Why do you all have to be so talented?

If you could give me about a ~~lifetime~~ minute to catch up, that would be great!

And then, if all that weren't enough (sheesh! Seriously.), I ~~blogstalked~~ stumbled upon Living with Lindsay's Teach Me Tuesday post. Her guest blogger this Tuesday was Sarah from A Little of This, A Little of That. Sarah made the most adorable little girl's American flag shirt. Seriously. To. Die. For.

{ the kitchen: in the beginning }

When we bought our condo almost 3 years ago, (eesh! Has it really been THAT long?) I was so thrilled to have a kitchen large enough that more than one person could actually fit in it at one time. Now, keep in mind that our condo is NOT huge (only about 1300 sqare feet.), and the kitchen itself is only about 500 square feet. But compared to the teensy basement apartment we had lived in -- it felt like a mansion!

Here is what our kitchen looked like when we bought the house:

I know it's terrible quality. Please forgive me. When we took these pics, I didn't realize I would ever need to refer back to them. Oh, how wrong I was!

Before we moved in, we painted all the walls in our house a yummy toasty tan - just to get rid of the stark builder's-white paint that was there (and to cover up some other rooms in the house...but that's a story for later!).

After moving in, our kitchen turned into this:

I have loved the dark brown in there, but sadly, it's going to have to go. Not all the way, but it's definitely getting changed up. I have big plans for our condo come fall time. We will be doing a major overhaul (I seriously can't wait for it! Squeal!)

I am trying to convince my hubbs to let us do a backsplash -- three years of just a painted wall is MORE than enough -- but I have been unsuccessful so far. He seems to think there are plenty of other projects already in the works without starting another huge one. pssshaa! Does he not know me at all?

Overall, I think the paint transformed this little space quite a bit. It always amazes me how much a little paint cant change the look of a room -- easiest & cheapest too!

Welcome to my blog!

I am seriously SO happy you stopped by. A {very very very} few of you might remember me from my old blog, The Inspiration Studio. I started that one about a year ago, but I never had any real direction with it, and, well, sad to say, it was very much neglected.

I recently discovered The Inspired Room, (I know! I know! Took me long enough, huh? AWESOME blog.) and didn't want Melissa to think I was copying her name. So between those two reasons, a new blog was formed, and I am just thrilled about it. I have so many ideas to post, I can't wait to get started.

So nice to *meet* you, and I hope you'll come back again!
